Here's What I Think(x)

Ok. Here's your warning. We're gonna talk bodily functions for a minute. Now I know that might make some of you uncomfortable so just skip on by. It actually makes me laugh sometimes. People can watch all sorts of blood, guts, and gore on tv and in movies but when it comes to discussing a period suddenly it's gross. Anyway. Moving right along.

Several years ago I came across period panties. At the time Thinx was the brand I was looking in to. They advertise as a life-changing, wonder product (my words, not theirs). Panties. That you wear on your period. And depending on your flow they can replace pads/cups/tampons/etc OR you can use them as a backup to your normal period products.

To be honest the only things stopping me were 1- the price. I felt like pads were more cost efficient. And 2- the ick factor. I am totally comfortable discussing periods but I wasn't sure how I'd feel just wearing nothing but panties. These reasons kept me away from Thinx for about 2 or 3 years. Fast forward to early this year.

Lindsey Elmore (my favorite resource for essential oil education) started sharing on her Instagram page. She shared a coupon code and I finally took the plunge. I purchased a bundle pack and with her coupon code paid about $50 for a 2 pack of Thinx. When I compared what I spent in pads to the life span of Thinx I realized they are actually more cost effective.

Thinx are reusable, washable, and odor controlling. A single pair can hold up to 4 tampons worth of blood. I haven't used tampons in years so I can't really give a good comparison. I will say that I'm a medium flow, even on my heaviest day, and I can wear a single pair of Thinx for a whole day. Side note. When you see a cheaper, yet similar, product pop up in your ads after reading this blog? RUN AWAY!!! Spend the money on the good stuff.

I halfway expected them to be big and bulky. I mean. That's what pads are right? And for these miracle panties to work they need to be at least as thick? Wrong!! Thinx are not much thicker than my regular panties and they are every bit as comfortable. I don't feel like I'm walking around wearing a diaper. I don't feel the need to adjust every time I sit down or stand up.

I've worn Thinx overnight and not had a single leak. It's up to you to judge your own flow. If you're aiming to use Thinx only you can always try it on a day where a leak wouldn't be the end of the world. For your first purchase I'd recommend getting at least 2 pairs so that you can swap them out and always have some ready to go. I'm getting ready to purchase the boy shorts, which are supposed to be even better protection as well as trying out the cotton briefs.

Other points: If you get the set that has the "lace" across the top you for sure don't want to just throw them in the washer and dryer with everything else. The lace starts to shred and get holes. I'm not saying I did that....but yeah....I totally messed up a few lacy pairs. Other than that? I'm a rule breaker (the instructions say rinse, wash, then hang dry) and I chunk them in the wash with my regular clothes and throw them in the dryer.

When I say this is a life changing product I kid you not. I'm stoked that they have a tween line as well. It'll be nice to offer my daughter an option that doesn't put harmful chemicals (yeah....do your research on tampons/pads) right next to her sensitive bits.

Have you tried Thinx yet? Are you a believer??
